Car Rental on a Sunday in Dijon

My husband and I will be traveling by train from Paris to Dijon, (hopefully) picking up a rental car, then exploring the Burgundy area by car for a few days before training from Dijon to Lyon. We've already booked our Chateau in the Burgundian countryside. :)

We were planning to travel from Paris on a Sunday, but it looks like the rental car companies near the train station in Dijon aren't open. Is it impossible to rent a car on Sundays, then? Or is there another way to rent a car on a Sunday? I'm open to suggestions!

The rental offices with the longest hours will be at the airports. Since you're headed (roughly) south of Paris, look into renting at Orly.

Harold's right. Not lots of options on Sundays or holidays.

That's odd, the car rental counters (as in most train stations) are right inside the terminal. It's not like people don't rent or return cars on the weekend, or perhaps that's not a French "thing." There were at least 4 rental counters, you should try every brand you can think of and make sure they are all closed. I suppose if you google up a map of that station it will list all the rental companies. It's a TGV station so it's not like a little shack near the tracks.

Hopefully you are staying at the Abbaye de la Bussiere.

Different than here, car rental locations in France are usually/often closed.

Joanna415, I don't believe that you will be able to obtain a rental car in Dijon on a Sunday before 4:00 PM except possibly from Avis, which is the rental car provider for SNCF Train + Avis package (http://www.sncf.com/en/services/special-packages). When you use the SNCF program, SNCF coordinates with Avis to have a car available when you arrive at the station even if the office would otherwise be closed. I suggest even though Avis is one of my two least preferred rental car companies in France because of its drop off charges for one-way rentals. If you want to try to reach all or most of the car rental companies, I would try AutoEurope rather than trying to call each one individually. I think that Avis at the Rail Station is open from 4 to 8 PM on Sundays in Dijon.

Thanks, everyone! Fortunately, we're pretty flexible, so we're looking at either (a) picking up the car from Orly Airport (thanks for the suggestion, Harold), (b) checking with Avis in Dijon, or (c) leaving a day early from Paris and picking up the car on Saturday.

I appreciate all the input!

Wow, somebody actually read our advice and is going to follow it!
Good show, Joanna.
We're trying to help, but sometimes/often we don't get feedback from the original poster that acknowledges our advice was helpful.
