I want to rent a car for two weeks and would like to pick it up somewhere between Paris and Amboise (Loire). I’d like to return it in Colmar (Alsace). Please recommend a rental company and pick up location. I want to avoid driving in Paris, which is my arrival and departure city. Thank you.

I have always rented cars through AutoEurope, which is a consol8dator. The actual rental company has always been EuropeCar. You could take a train from Gare Montparnasse to Chartres, which takes about an hour, and pick the car up there.

If you're going to take a train anyway, you could go all the way to Tours ,(St. Pierre des Corps station) and rent it there. I think Europcar is there, as well as Hertz and Sixt. Amboise is less than 30 min away from there.

I have returned a rental car at the train station in Tours. I believe the company was EuropeCar. It was problem free.
Our last trip to France, we took a train from Paris to Chartres and picked up a car the next day. We rented from AutoEurope but I'm pretty sure that when we picked it up the company was Hertz. We returned that car in Vernon after visiting Monet's Garden in Giverny. That rental was also problem free. We also do not drive in Paris and take a train to another location we want to see and then get the car there. Chartres has a beautiful cathedral. I believe it was about 1 1/2 hours to Amboise from Chartres. (We stopped in Vouvray to do some wine tasting, first)
