Has anyone rented a car in Vernon, France, recently? I have seen cars available in Vernon on the Hertz website, but I'd like to hear a personal experience. We are planning to arrive in Vernon by train on a Wednesday in September. We hope to rent a car, drive to Bayeux, and stay until Saturday. We want to return the car to Vernon early Saturday morning before visiting Monet's Garden.
Wouldn't it be more convenient to keep your luggage in the car while you visit the gardens and return the car later?
Why not take the train directly to Bayeux (or Caen) and rent the car there? Then return it to Vernon (or Rouen if the agency has no return in Vernon - direct train from Rouen to Vernon).
Hertz does charge a drop-off fee in France for different pick-up/drop-off cities. But it is worth it to me if it fits my schedule better. So I personally would rent in Caen and drop off in Vernon unless you have another reason to visit Vernon twice.
Thanks, everyone. We are considering all these options, trying to adjust our schedule with the train schedules and our lodging reservations.
If Vernon does not work out, there are some car rental locations in Mantes La Jolie as well - more options than on Vernon; there is at least Europcar and Enterprise. Make sure that they are close to the station there. From there, trains to Paris are much cheaper (5€) and more frequent than from Vernon.
