car rental in Paris with gps

I will be staying in the 10th arrondissement between Canal Saint Martin & the Republique metro. I may need to rent a car for 1 day to go to Auvers Sur Oise because of not wanting to change trains. I will have to have a gps that can be translated in English. I have used Auto Europe before, but they will only ship you the gps before you leave & charge you for the length of your trip. I would like to rent a car either online or in person after I get there & be able to get the gps then. Does anybody know what company would be good to use that is reliable, but not over the top expensive? Leaving September 19. Thanks so much.

I am not understanding what changing trains has to do with this. Do you have mobility issues? This is an easy RER journey. Last resort, just take the RER to St Ouen l'Aumone and taxi the rest of the way. Seems a whole lot easier than renting a car in Paris and negotiating traffic in Paris. Or last last resort, just take a taxi from the 10th.

You don't want to change trains, but you'd rather negotiate the insane Paris traffic? Unless you have a mobility impairment train changes are MUCH easier than driving in Paris...with or without a gps.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, I do have some mobility issues, but that is not the main problem. The only direct trains are early on the weekend, which I wanted to avoid. I wanted to go on a weekday. However, I probably will end up going on the weekend. The last time I tried to get there by changing trains & not understanding French was a disaster. I would have never known how to do it except that I accidentally & fortunately, saw a friend on the opposite platform when I arrived at the transfer spot & she waved to me how to get to the other side & told me what train to take. I didn't even know that I had to go under an underpass and no one could help me. So, I NEVER want to repeat that again. And, no, you are right, I don't want to negotiate Parisian traffic (although, I've driven and parked in New York City very well for 45 years) because I really don't know how to do it, hence the gps. Thanks again.

With some careful route planning, you can make it with 1 bus and 2 trains ride.
I am using the RATP website, but still had to get creative to find it. I am looking at September 12.
Bus 65 from Republique to Gare du Nord. It goes every 6 minutes in the morning and leaves you a short walk to Gare du Nord. Leave at 7:50 and drops you at Valenciennes at 7:56, a 4 minute walk to the station. Check the departure board for the "H" train to Valmondois, departing 8:26. Arrive at 9:11. You will have to change to the other platform, as Auvers sur Oise is in the opposite direction that you arrived. At 9:36, the train to Auvers sur Oise arrives, get on and go exactly one stop and voila! You are at Auvers sur Oise at 9:40.
Do not be afraid to ask people for help. Many speak English, especially younger people. Start with "Parlez vous l'Anglais?" and go from there.

Edit - Using the transilien route planner, found a route with only a single train, Monday thru Friday, with a bus on each end.
Take the route to Gare du Nord as above. Take the 8:30 "H" train direction Persan-Beaumont arriving Mery sur Oise at 9:09, then the Val D'Oise bus 95-17 in front of the station at 9:20 to Auvers sur Oise at 9:26.
Here is the route planner: https://www.transilien.com/en/
Here is the Val D'Oise bus schedules: http://www.valdoise.fr/350-le-reseau-busvaldoise.htm
Click on the line 95-17 to download a pdf of the bus schedule.
This is a Zone 1-5 fare, 5.95 EUR each way an "origine-destination" ticket, but that would require you to use the Metro from Republique to Gare du Nord. Otherwise you could play it safe and buy a Zone 1-5 Mobilis for 17.30 EUR and be good for everything for the day.

Sam, thanks so much for all the careful info. in your reply, but this is jus what I was trying to avoid, by driving or having to take the direct weekend train. Last time, I did ask people for help in my poor French & I asked if they could speak English. It was of no help. There are trains that look like you only have to change once, let alone change twice or look for a bus. Thanks for your help anyway.

Thanks, Kim, that is very nice of you, but that would be too expensive. I've been there once before & really want to go again, so I guess I'll just have to go on the direct train on the weekend. Thanks anyway.

If you have a smart phone, use google maps. It works great. Also you can buy a used GPS and purchase/ insert. the French /European maps. Just change your language preference to English on the GPS. We've driven in Lisbon (considered one of the worst cities to drive in) and it worked great! Then you will have it for future trips too. Good luck!

We bought used GPS from pawn shop $12.00. Then we bought a used Europe chip for GPS from Ebay for $40.00. Total spent. 52.00. The GPS came with US maps, so we had Europe and US for 52.00. We did this 4 years ago and are still using both. This way, I can use GPS for car travel or walking. I did have to buy a 12V charger/converter so that I could charge the GPS when I was not using a car.
