Is access to car rentals the same in both Marseille & Avignon? Also which car rental company does everyone prefer? There will be 5 of us & we’d like to rent something similar to a minivan or SUV for a week, possibly 10 days. Thanks for your suggestions.

Marseille airport is easy but driving out of Marseille Saint Charles train station is not very pleasant - the A7 highway out of town can be stressful with the ever-present heavy traffic.
Avignon TGV couldn't be easier. Avignon Centre (downtown) is also relatively easy to get to and from.
So I would opt for Avignon, given the choice.
As for rental companies: Firefly, Keddy, Goldcar (available in Marseille) can be deceiving - good rates, but nickel-and-diming when it comes to insurance/damage claims, the others are OK. The use of a consolidator like Auto Europe is a good way to compare rates (and I often book thru them, no issue).

We just rented a vehicle at MRS and drove to our lodging north of Aix, no issues at all! Easy peasy
