I want to rent a car in Evian once I take the boat across from Lausanne. I'm not sure how far it is from the dock to the car rental place. It might even be in the next town over (Thonon-les-Bains). My French isn't good enough to call and ask and the information I'm getting here is contradictory. Does anyone know if there is a car rental location in Evian (I believe it's AVIS) and whether it's within walking distance of the dock?
Take a look at https://www.google.com/maps/dir/H%C3%B4tel+Aliz%C3%A9,+Place+du+Port,+%C3%89vian-les-Bains,+France/Avis+Location+Voiture+Evian,+%C3%89vian-les-Bains,+France/@46.4016431,6.5916034,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x478c2355abe9fab5:0x3f0e17f3900056c2!2m2!1d6.594761!2d46.401252!1m5!1m1!1s0x478c3ca5b0414d03:0x86dd408d976730af!2m2!1d6.5909436!2d46.4014584!3e2. The hotel where the directions start is across the street from the ferry port. I used to work for a company based in Lausanne and and am familiar with the ferry to Evian. They run that ferry in conditions that in the US would mean no ferry service and the ride across the lake then can be roller coaster bumpy. It's been about 10 years since I have been to Evian and things could have changed but note that except for the Casino not much is open Sundays. BTW, the Avis in Evian is not open on weekends and only open for about 4 hours per day on weekdays.
Thanks JHK.
How'd you do that (with the route and time displayed)? Excellent.
You go to google.com/maps and click on the little blue rhombus with the arrow and enter the starting point and the destination and voilà. Click on the icon of the walking man for walking directions. Having been to Evian in the past, I know where the ferry terminal is located so I actually just went to Evian on Google Maps and entered the name of the Hotel and Evian and it took me there and then I clicked on directions and entered Avis. The system will auto populate with the closest destination with the name that you typed. I hope that made sense.
Bob - I highly recommend Les Cygnes in Evian if you're looking for a great restaurant.
Since you'll have a car, a day in Annency is a must.
