I will be renting a car in Brive from September 13 until the 28th. I NEED an automatic car and would like for it to have a GPS. Most economical car desired...only 2 travelers. So far I've not had luck with finding an automatic.

My searches have shown that the closest automatics are in Bordeaux and Toulouse. We rented from Tours, spent a couple nights in the Loire, then drive down past Brive.

Auto Europe shows that both Europcar and Hertz in Brive have no automatic cars available on those dates. Did you check Enterprise, Avis, and Sixt (all located at the train station)? Otherwise, you might have to rent the car in Bordeaux to get more options.

As someone who's rented a car in Brive a couple of years ago, I would agree with Matt's advice that you probably need to look at a bigger place to have any hopes of being able to rent an automatic car. Somewhere like Bordeaux or Toulouse, as he mentioned. The car rental places "at the station" in Brive are so small that when we picked our car up there, we went to a nearby restaurant to pick up the keys and sign the paperwork (and to return the car a few days later as well).

Yes, as others have said, Bordeaux is a more likely spot to pick up an automatic. I've rented automatics there, both at the train station and at the airport.
