My wife and I are headed to Arles in September. We will arrive by train then rent a car. Is it easier to rent a car in Arles or Avignon? (Obviously coming from the train station in the corresponding town.)
The agencies in Arles are small ( and not right at the station) so availability might be limited and hours will he limited as well
I would rent from an agency at Avignon TGV station

Agree, best choice and location is Avignon TGV. All the agencies are there and it's right out in front of the TGV station. Note that Avignon TGV is more out in the country is not Avignon Center and the two train stations are about 8 minutes apart.
It's about an hour to Arles from there and with the usual shuffle from Avignon TGV to Avignon Center to Arles the train probably takes about the same amount of time to drive or take the train. If you're headed in and out on the TGV at either or both ends of your trip the TGV station is best choice.
Have a great trip,

This was 12 years ago; our Arles hotelier suggested the auto rental business in town we used. There are no auto rental stands at the Arles train station.
Thank you for your responses. Sounds like Avignon is the way to go.

Just wanted to add
We returned our car in Arles-Europcar-that was easy and a quick walk in to town or to station from there
