We're traveling by train from Paris to the Amboise area and plan to rent a car there. From what I've read, it looks like our best bet is to take the train to St. Pierre des Corps. Does anyone have a recommendation of a car rental company near that train station? Thanks!
Look at the station on google maps and it will show them, then take your pick. Or punch it in to a search site like Orbitz and you will see you have your pick of Sixt, Alamo, Enterprise, and Avis a bit further away.
Or search via the Autoeurope website. They'll display the least expensive rentals in the various categories of car. I stuck a virtual pin in a calendar and it was showing the least expensive smaller cars were from Avis and Europcar. It may recommend different companies on other dates or for other types of car. We've rented there from Sixt and were quite satisfied.
I agree about AutoEurope, but still advise to check the individual companies as well. I have seen cars cheaper direct from the hire firms than the consolidators on occasion. Car hore prices are like cellphone prices - I think they are deliberately confusing so you're never really comparing like to like.
You won't hire a car in Amboise. There's only one car hire place there, it's about 45 minutes walk from the station (you probably wontt find a taxi), and it mainly does small vans.
A suggestion...Before completing your train booking, it’s a good idea to check the opening hours for the rental car offices serving St Pierre des Corps station. Some close for lunch, some close early on Saturdays, and many close all day Sunday. There have been travelers on this forum who were caught out, with non-changeable tickets for trains arriving after the rental office closed.
I picked up a car from Hertz at St Pierre des Corps train Station.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions! I'm feeling much more comfortable having this information. And, I was grateful for the info about when car rentals are open! It appears some are closed from Friday evening until Monday morning!
Also, most car places in StPdC close for a two-hour lunch. Read the fine print that is readily available on major company websites. It’s your responsibility. Have lunch near the rail station if needed.
