Car Rental and Gas Price in France right now

I'm wondering if anyone visited France recently (say in the last two weeks) and have an idea what the cost of petrol is right now? I rejected electric car option to save time (and perhaps inconvenience) but now I'm rethinking this. Visiting in a week, if I go at all.

You can find this data online -- there's both official governmental websites and other commercial sites where you can look up the cost of petrol by type and location.

Note/remember that:

  • gazole is diesel
  • SP95, SP95 E10, and S98 are different types of gas reflecting the octane index (i.e. the same kind of thing as regular/premium/super gas in the US which will often be labeled with the number ranging from 87 to 93 or so on the pump)
  • the prices are of course quoted in euros per liter -- Google will convert it for you if you search "X euros per liter to dollars per gallon". Very roughly fuel is about twice as expensive as in the US though of course this varies depending on which exact locations you are comparing

Even if you planned to drive a lot, the increase in gasoline prices amounts to a negligible change in the total cost of travel.

If you drive 1000 miles in a car that gets 20 mpg, then you'll need to buy 50 gallons. If the cost per gallon is 6 euros then you'll be spending 300 euros. If the price rises to 8 euros per gallon, then your total gas expense would increase to 400 euros. You'd really cancel your whole trip over 100 euros?

It depends on the grade, but it's about 2.15 euros a liter.

Last night in St. Jean du Luz diesel was 2.25/L.

FWIW, on Monday here in Spain, I paid 1.499/L for diesel. Yesterday before going to France I topped up my tank, at the same station, and the price was 1.745/L.
