We are planning to rent a car in Provence. Is there an age limit? My wife is 73 and I am 82.
Many thanks for the info.
Per AutoEurope there is no upper age limit for car rentals in France.
You need to reach out directly to the car rental agency. You should contact not only corporate but also the local office. I'd be surprised if their insurance would extend that far.
There is no age limit defined by law or by a general rule.
Each car rental company has its own rules (or no rule at all)
Contact the rental companies or check on their websites in the Terms & conditions section
Out of curiosity I did a dummy booking on AutoEurope for a one week rental for an 82 year old from the Marseille airport. Appears that Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, and Avis all rent without restrictions - including full insurance cover.
This link https://www.autoeurope.com/travel-tips/rental-car-age-requirements/ shows the age-related requirements for most European countries. As noted above, there are no upper age restrictions in France. Perhaps the OP got concerned because of the restrictions in Ireland and Greece (max age: 75).
In years past, I do remember some individuals leasing cars because the rental age maximum was otherwise limiting. Rental companies have requirements and policies which may be more restrictive than governmental limits. It is always best to check with any company directly before committing to a rental.
I am 75 and just rented from Auto Europe. I was told there was no upper limit for them. The rental was thru Hertz and checking with them was the same answer. My advice is check with the company your renting the car from.
