Car in Strasbourg

Planning to travel from Heidelberg to Strasbourg before heading east across southern Germany. Have a rental car, but everything I've read warns of driving in the center of Strasbourg. Any suggestions? Plan on spending three nights in Strasbourg.

Take the train to Strasbourg. A car in Strasbourg requires a special French environmental sticker, which a German rental car is unlikely to have. Perhaps you could park the car in Kehl and take the tram or train into Strasbourg.

Parking in Strasbourg is expensive. It can cost in excess of 40 Euro/day, and there are tourist scammers at the inner-city parking lots. You don't need a car in the city. The train station is an easy walk from the center of the old town, the trams are frequent and easy to use, and really if you stay in the area most tourists visit it's not that big.

We took a car to Strasbourg and decided to park it at an outlying train station, and then took the tram into old Strasbourg. There was free parking near the train station. Peter

When we had a Germany rented vehicle, rather than Strasbourg, we stayed in Colmar at a hotel by the train station with free parking and took the train to Strasbourg. No environmental sticker is needed for Colmar.

From Heidelberg, consider parking the car in Kehl, a small town in Germany, just across the border from Strasbourg. Not entirely sure of parking, whether 3 days would be allowed at the station, but worth investigating.
