I'm back! Trying to choose between staying in Cannes or staying in Nice (in May). I'm leaning towards Nice we're flying into Nice and because the area seems easier for travel between Monaco and Cannes. Thoughts? Preferences?
I never stayed in Cannes, didn't even go there, so can't compare - but I just loved my stay in Nice with day trips to Monaco and St Paul de Vence.
Although we'll be there during the film festival it sounds like aside from that and sunbathing there's not much else in Cannes. Nice seems to have more to offer with the old town?
Nice - not too impressed with Cannes.
Nice is easier for transit and there is more to do.
As an alternative to Cannes, you might consider Antibes.
I was in Cannes during the film festival so it was overcrowded, but other than a lot of restaurants and hotels I didn't see a whole lot that would interest me for any length of time. I tend to enjoy smaller villages, but as far as cities go Nice is a good place to spend a few days. Also, close to a number of interesting places for day trips.
My wife and I will be flying into Nice in May also. To me, Nice has everything I'm looking for. There are the Matisse and Chagall museums, and the Foundation Maeght, Picasso and Renoir Museums can be done by bus or train. Other potential day trips are Monaco, Menton, and villages of the Inland Riviera. To be honest, Cannes isn't even on the itinerary.
Been to both.. would return to Nice.
My wife and I and our adult daughter spent five nights in Nice and loved it. We took a half-day trip to Cannes because our daughter wanted to see what it looks like. Unless it's important to you to see where the rich and famous hang out, don't bother. There are lots of better places to go for day trips.
I've been to both a batch of times.
Cannes is a lunch stop for the market and a walk around the marinas.
Nice is the place to stay.
A much forgotten museum in Nice on these boards is the
Museum of Modern Art. I enjoyed it very much. It caused a huge scandal when it was constructed, I remember.
