I am a senior from CA with occasional sleep problems. I have found that eating one cannabis-infused gummy at bedtime is very helpful. What are the possible drawbacks of traveling with them to France?
I use it for pain and I've done research. TSA will have you arrested. It is not worth it. Leave them at home. Ask your doctor for something else.
If your gummies contain THC, flying with them in the US is a federal drug offense.

I'll say that I have traveled to Europe with gummies a number of times without issue. I'm always sure to not bring anything with me off the plane in the US.
The definite drawback of what you propose is that it is illegal. The chances of you being caught are very slim. Chances of prosecution would be slim too I'd guess but it's never a good idea to enter a country with something that is illegal. Come to think of it, assuming you are from the US, it would actually be illegal to return to your own country with said gummies as cannabis is still illegal federally!
The best bet would be to ask your doctor about melatonin which might help you. On the other hand, chances are your travels will get you tired enough there will be no need of sleep aids! ;^)
Laura- TSA isn't looking for cannabis products, and really doesn't care. And they certainly can’t "have you arrested". They can call the local or airport police, who pursue the matter according to state law, which in CA (OP's), WA (yours), and NY (mine) all allow personal use carry. That is to say, the police don't care.
I think CBD is legal in the EU — a speakeasy we were looking at in Paris makes cbd infused cocktails. You could look to purchase some once there for the time you will be there.
My advice is to leave them home unless you have solid legal advice. Remember you will be carrying these gummies in Federal, State and Local jurisdictions and then transporting internationally and landing in a foreign country. Why ruin a vacation. There are many legal sleep aids your physician can prescribe.
I would suggest doing research on their legality in France. If they are legal, buy them there and leave them there.
As others have stated, it is against US federal law to possess them. If you enter the country with them and are caught, you will be in big trouble even if it is legal in your state.
There are CBD stores in France but not cannabis.
In France, you will find stores selling cannabis-based products (CBD shops).
The legislation on these products has changed a lot, the last decision of the Council of State (January 24, 2022) authorizes the sale of cannabis-based products if the THC does not exceed 0.3%. (it was 0.2% before).
Don't tell anyone but I brought gummies (and peanut butter cups too) in my luggage from LA to Israel with a stop in Chicago. They've been in the cupboard for months now. I will start using them as a sleep aid!
Thank you Mary for the idea 🥰
marymcushing, welcome to this board with your first post.
Please come back and tell us if you have travelled internationally before? Do you regularly travel to other US states? Are you asking about products containing THC, or about CBD?
I want to stress that it is important to follow the laws of any countries you go to including the United States. One of the community guidelines on this forum is “Do not help people break laws” and I think it is an important guideline.
This is not judgement on OP or anyone else, merely a reminder……….
All it takes is dogs which I have seen both times we returned from Europe to turn your trip into a legal nightmare. When we landed at O'Hare (where Cannabis is locally legal). there were dogs at the conveyor belt and they were pulling and rifling through people's bags.
I feel your pain -- I like a half gummy for sleep too but the risk/reward ration here is way off. Get your doctor to prescribe a couple of sleeping products and don't risk it.
Low odds of being caught, but potentially big problems it it happens.
I also like gummies at home but switch to a benadryl and/or a glass of wine while in Europe!
I suggest talking to your doctor about a sleep medication. You’re not going to sleep at all if the dogs ( the dogs are seemingly psychic in their ability to detect THC)
pick it up either on your person or in your luggage.
You can: be denied entry into the EU; be turned around and ordered to return to the US on the next flight ( at last-minute one-way ticket prices you will have to pay for); be fined; be blackballed from entering the EU any time in the future.
Weigh the risks versus the rewards.
Also seniors here, we take the occasional sleep aid only when we travel abroad. A prescription for Ambien with insurance we just filled was less than $2 for around 16 pills. Easy decision for us.
Note: This thread is from April, and the OP has never returned to answer questions.

7. Do not help people break laws. Speaking of the existence of law breaking is OK. Sharing how to circumvent visa restrictions, scam hotels, or perform other illegal acts is prohibited.
Do not help people break laws.
But then, when people ask about taking prescriptions, including controlled drugs, and potentially US prescribed drugs not allowed in Europe and the required labeling...the usual advice is "Don't worry about it, nobody checks, I have traveled to Europe 40 bizillion times with suitcases of pills and no one ever checked"
Paul, that may be the "usual" advice, but not mine. And I carry a lot of prescriptions. Never break the law is my advice. Especially when a guest in someone else's country. Or when there is a long line behind you in security.
