I'm looking into renting a canal boat. We would like to rent for three days but it looks like we need to rent for at least five. Has anyone rented a boat for less time then five days? Any favorite routes? Any suggestions appreciated.

We were staying at a converted abbey outside Dijon and nearby there was a canal. We sat and watched a boat work its way through a lock, it was all quite beautiful.

The one route I know well because I have biked along quite a bit of it, is the Canal du Midi in the southwest of France going west from Agde. It is a lovely stretch of water that passes through villages and is often lined by plane trees. It can be quite busy in the summer.

I was just perusing the January issue of France Magazine and they have an entire section devoted to boating the waterways of France including many of the canals. Loads of ads for companies - it might give you some resources you haven't found yet.
