I booked 2 tickets to only the chateau at Versailles instead of buying the passport. Is it possible to cancel those tickets or am I stuck with them and just consider them a donation?

just buy an entrance to the Trianon at the Trianon if you decide you want to go in. If it is a fountain day and you want to visit the garden you can just buy a garden ticket once there -- I have done both. The main value of the passport is entrance to the chateau -- and it includes the other entries which can easily be acquired without long lines in my experience once there. The Trianon has its own box office and there are a couple of places to buy only garden tickets. On one occasion we had no line for that; on the second occasion we did that (we had bought chateau tickets and were deciding based on the weather) we had maybe 10 or 15 people ahead of us in the line for garden tickets.
