cancelled Easy Jet Flight

Easy Jet just cancelled our flight to Paris tomorrow morning from Rome. There are no flights tonight or tomorrow. We will request a refund, but guessing a new flight is going to cost us a lot more $$$$. Is Vueling reliable? ITA?

I’ve only flown Vueling once (a last minute purchase when BA canceled a flight), and it was fine. You might also want to check Transavia.

We flew Vueling from Granada to Barcelona. A Boeing jet is a Boeing jet. No issues were experienced.

We flew Vueling from Granada to Paris with a stop in Barcelona. It was bare bones, entry into the plane from outside, but it got the job done and at a low cost. We're flying them again in December.

Also check what might be covered by any travel insurance that you have.

If it's due to a strike, you are however probably not entitled to any compensation.

Although Vueling uses Airbus jet…

We are TOTALLY stuck in Rome. Can't get out until Saturday night and had to be in Paris tomorrow. The trains would cost us around $800. We do have travel insurance, but not sure at the moment how that helps. Still desperately trying to get out of Rome. Nothing is going tomorrow.

Start by taking the train to Milan tonight, that will at least get you a bit closer. What time do you have to be in Paris?

I am meeting my son who only has two days in Paris. Looking at train but the train to Milan for 2 is $225 for tonight then tomorrow to Paris is $536. Wondering if my travel insurance would cover it. All in train plus hotel for two would be close to $1000 to get to Paris.
Easy Jet would not get me in until Saturday at 10 pm which totally screws up the purpose for me going this weekend. We had lots planned. He has to leave Sunday morning. We looked at flying from Milan on Saturday and Vueling as one that gets in around 4:30 Sat. but at that point we've pretty much missed our weekend. Trying to decide if the $1000 in any way will be covered by insurance, or I would definitely be on the next train to Milan within the hour.

This is what I call an emergency and it's exactly why you might travel as economically as you can during normal times, but when you run into a problem, you throw money at it. 800 might seem enormous, but it solves your problem.
Been there. Done that.

Bets, your are right. Looking at that now.

I think that the fact that the cancellation is due to an air traffic controllers' strike in Italy is useful information.

It tells you that it's useless to try to buy air tickets on another airline to leave Rome tomorrow, the day of the strike.

I am really sorry this has happened to you. These unpleasant surprises pop up from time to time and can have small or large effects on your travel. In your case, it's messing up your plan to see your son.

It sounds like something that a travel insurance should cover, but of course there is no way for me to know if that is the case or not. I understand that it not what you wanted, I've been in a similar situation myself. But at the moment you don't have much choice if you want to go to Paris.

We are on the train now to Milan, got a cheap hotel near the central station, and have a hotel booked for early morning tomorrow for Paris via Zurich then to Paris. Gets us in about an hour and a half later than when our original flight was supposed to, but at least we are getting there. Staying in Rome really wasn't much of an option, and flights were going in to Sunday. That is, unless you wanted to pay over $1000 each for early Saturday. It was such a rip off.

Edit: Should say we have a hotel booked upon arrival in Milan at 11:30 and then a train out early tomorrow morning via Zurich.

Follow up
We were soooooo glad to get out of Rome when we did. After spending a night in Milan, we took the train through the mountains to Zurich which was beautiful scenery. We had a layover before boarding our next train to Paris, so we had lunch at the station and had the most wonderful burger ever! All $27 of it! But it was a good break, then settled in for the long journey to Paris. Once we got to Paris, we were so glad to be there and felt the extra $$$$ to get there was well worth it. We would much rather have done that than have spent another night or two in Rome. Rome was packed with people, everywhere you went, and very unpleasant. It was my 5th trip to Rome, and we can say, we're done. The long journey from Rome to Paris was well worth the time and effort.
