I am wanting to take a canal trip in France in 2026, with 2-3 couples. Want somebody to be steering the boat. Recommendations as to which canal, time of year, how long of a trip, and who to use. Love to stop at little villages and eat along the way. Like to hear all the pros and cons.

You have the option of larger operators such as AMA, Uniworld, and a few others. These companies operate on the Seine River, departing from Paris; the Garonne River departing from Bordeaux; or the Rhone River departing from Arles/Avignon/Lyon.

I have traveled most of the inland waterways of France but having a permit fluviale, I rent directly from private boat owners.
