Canal day trips near Beaune?

We are in Beaune for two days and would like to take a canal day trip like we saw on Rick Steeves video. Any suggestions?

there is a canal outside Dijon/Beune, I saw it on the map. We're staying near it.

Let me give more detail. The closest the canal comes to Beaune is about 30 kilometers. The segment in the video was filmed on a houseboat, which are rented by the week. Travel on a canal can be slow to very slow depending on the number of locks you have to go through, not condusive to day trips.

However, it is very beautiful along the canal, particularly through villages or the countryside. You may want to seek out a part of the canal for a walk or bike ride on the tow path. You won't regret it

I'll second a walk .or bike trip along the canal. We've taken many walks along several canals in France, including the Canal de Bourgogne. It's a great way to go.

My own experience biking along the Burgundy canals (wonderful) made me glad I was not stuck on one of those pokey barges I saw stacked up at each of the locks. A chacon.

If you get a chance visit the photogenic village of Chateauneuf en Auxois. It is on a hill overlooking the canal.Down by the canal is a picnic table that is perfect for a little wine ,cheese etc. And there is a wonderful walking path along the canal...lovely.Beautiful in the fall. Also our favorite restaurant in Chateauneuf en auxois is L'oree Dubois ...a little creperie that has fine soups and salads as well as dinner items and fine wine from the area.Their claim to fame is a wonderful open fireplace that is toasty warm and very romantic in the fall and winter.Closed on Tuesdays.

Jane, thank you for that information. We will be in Burgundy in a few weeks and that sounds like a lovely way to spend some time.
