We are 4 middle aged ladies who want to spend a week together on a canal boat/barge, but are anxious about the steering, locks, tying up etc . We don't want a chef, tourguide, etc. Do any companies offer the help we need?
The companies that rent canal boats will give you a personal tutorial at the beginning of your rental period. They don't want their boat coming back banged up so they will give you all the info you need to get you on your way!
We have used le Boat and would do so again, excellent help on both ends. If one or two of you have boating experience you should be ok, the boats are slow and easy to steer. They can recommend itineraries based on your experience. Bon voyage!
We will be on a canal boat in France in June.
Le Boat is great. Have done Burgandy, Venice, Thames, Canal du Midi. and a narrow boat in Wales.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
We like one way rentals. Prefer going down stream. It is easier to tie up and then boat gets lower in lock.
Had bikes, and local bakery in morning. Lunch on boat, dinner out. You'll need to fill water tank for showers, etc.
