Can we wear jeans to an evening concert at Saint Chapelle?

Hi! My husband and I will be in Paris in June and would like to go to an evening concert at Saint Chapelle. We are travelling light and will only have jeans to wear for pants. Will this be okay?

No you will be arrested…..kidding…..

Over decades of travel I’ve often worn jeans to theatre, restaurants, museums, et al. Rome, Havana, Istanbul, London, Amsterdam, Paris…..

Be respectful its is a church after all so I’d certain the jeans aren’t ripped or torn.

My travel jeans worn in all the places listed above are Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda Classic Jeans. 2 pair. Navy and black. Bought ages ago at a JC Penny store.

EDIT: Fine, it’s not a church.

Of course. And, it is not a church; rather, it is a museum.

Ste. Chappelle is no longer an operating church. It was "decommissioned" years ago. However, its historic and religious significance are real. I wear black jeans almost exclusively, and pair them with a fancier top to attend concerts at nice venues. I always pack a fancy sweater or wrap for dinners or concerts at upscale locations. No one will fault you for casual wear, but I would dress up my top a bit, just to mark the occasion of hearing music at such a beautiful location.
Amusez-vous Bien!

I wore jeans to the concert about a month ago along with everyone else there. Get there early to queue up and security.

It's decades since we went, but these are much more "tourist concerts" than "the municipal opera company" or "philharmonic." Nobody cares what you are wearing. It is important not to bring large bags, pocketknives, knapsacks ... that will delay your security screening, and all the people behind you. The main issue is not the Saint Chapelle, but the adjacent Law Courts or whatever it is.

Thanks to you all so much! I'm so relieved. Since we're old folks, our jeans are "just jeans" and nothing fancy or ratty. But we will wear something nicer for a shirt. We're trying to pack light-ish since after Paris we head to Iceland and need the space in our luggage for warmer clothing, I've heard. Can't wait for this trip!

most people in Paris wear jeans most of the time (unless they are women wearing tights or men wearing sweats). seriously look around any metro platform and 80% of the people will be wearing jeans. I no longer carry anything but black jeans on my trips to France. They are dark black, don't have a lot of jean styling i.e. grommets and such and with a slightly dressier top are fine for the opera and the rare high end dinner out.

No problem at all for st. chapelle.

Thank you, Janet. I sure feel better about wearing jeans to a concert now! You all are very helpful.

If it’s a warm day, it likely will be rather toasty inside. It was unseasonably warm our last visit there for an evening concert and it was nearly stifling inside. But well worth the discomfort given the awesome concert.

Tips: get there early. Unless things have changed, seating is on a first-come basis. Get the middle section seats (the mid-range price). Sitting in the middle gives you a good view of the windows all around you during the concert. If you get in early, stake out your seats, then you can wander around the room enjoying the windows and taking photos. Take binoculars for much better views of the windows. When I was last there (years ago), there were 2 concerts a night. The doors opened for the first one about 30 minutes ahead. You can ask at the ticket office what the schedule is ahead of time.

I don't think anyone pays attention to what you're wearing. I will say that jeans would be too warm for me in Paris in June at all. And remember that in June the sun doesn't set until 10 pm.

You will be fine! I had planned to wear a dress when we attended the concert last month, but it was so cold, I layered up in slacks, sweater, scarf, and hat.
Was not aware of what others wore, just thrilled by the setting and music.

yea of course heat is the only issue with jeans. I travel in april/may and September October November and usually the jeans are fine BUT I also always care one lightweight pair of pants in case it is unseasonably warm. If it is likely to be several weeks of warm weather I pack linen slacks; if it is just as a precaution I have a very lightweight pair of black boho lightweight rayon which usually don't leave the bag -- but are there in case.

Jeans are heavy and bulky, take up too much room in the suitcase, and warm in summer. Why don't you pack two pairs of light, washable, quicker to dry, black pants. I have Chico Travelers or something lighter. All my pants for travel are black for easy marching. If I have one pair of jeans, they are worn on the plane, black, and for cooler weather under 65. I wore Chico Travelers in Iceland in June.

Thank you all for your replies. Very helpful! The problem with the jeans is that we are going to Iceland after Paris via ferry from Denmark. It will be a lot cooler there, so we have to pack accordingly. Maybe two pairs of jeans and a lightweight pair of capris? Not sure yet. We don't leave until June 17 for Paris so I have two months to plan this out. Again, thanks for your thoughts everyone!

Re jeans....I use pull-on, elastic waist jeans, somewhat lightweight, so they roll up easily for packing. At 80 y/o, I don't deal with zippers on jeans or slacks, so my 2-3 pairs aren't bulky. Neither are they too hot (usually)! The type you use will impact your packing space and comfort.
Enjoy your concert!

To Judy: Thanks for the info on those type of jeans. Good idea! My problem is packing for warm weather in Paris and cooler weather in Iceland on this trip. Gee, what a problem to have, huh? I'll figure something out. We're checking our luggage on all the flights, so I don't have to worry about carry-on dimensions.

LindaC,
I have become a fan of 32 Degrees brand of tops (from Costco). Layered under a top(s) they are good keeping you warm, but very light, so you could have 2-3 layers over them and hardly know you are wearing them. They come long or short-sleeved. When in Prague in February, 2004, I brought a long warm tights to go under my jeans. With warm socks and a jacket, we handled the cold winter weather there fairly well. (At least it didn't snow there, just cold temperatures.) Maybe these suggestions will help with the Iceland portion of your trip.
Bon voyage!

Judy, Thanks again for the info. I will look into Costco for the 32 Degree clothing. (Iceland has a Costco -- maybe I could buy something there as needed! lol)

Appreciate all the advice here. You guys are so great! Thanks to you all, I'll be comfortable wearing my jeans at that evening concert at Saint Chapelle now! lol

This was what I was about to say:

Jeans are heavy and bulky, take up too much room in the suitcase, and warm in summer

And heaven forbid if jeans get wet. Even if you live in them at home, they're really not the best choice for travel. Get some Docker type pants or, even better, microfiber.
