I am struggling to find a train from Sarlat-de-Caneda to the Mont St Michel area. Does this route exist? Any advice?

It exists, sort of. Sarlat-to-Bordeaux-to-Paris-to-Rennes-to-MSM. It's about 7 hours, not counting transfer time.

I think it might even be a little longer than 7 hrs, and with transfer times will probably get up to around 10 hrs. Not a particularly pleasant journey. Best if you can break it up with an overnight somewhere. Even renting a car and driving will take you about 8 hours without stops. It's over 400 miles.

Train travel in France is mostly hub and spoke our of Paris -- so look for the best route to Paris and then from there to Pontorson.
