Can we do Picnic dinner on Mont St-Michel?

After much research, we settled on the Auberge Saint-Pierre Hotel for our one-night stay on Mont St-Michel. It seems the best (least-worst?) of the bunch. Since no one seems to think much of the restaurants on the island, we thought about picking up some wine, cheese, meat, and bread in the village and bringing them to the island for a picnic at dusk. Is that sort of thing frowned on?

Thanks!

By village I assume you mean Pontorson?

Also, don't forget we're talking north-western France here - the weather may not be conducive to sitting outside picnicking, and I can't bring to mind any picnic tables on the island

I'm not sure where you would eat -- hunched over on stairs? We ate in the hotel restaurant at the top of the island near the Abbey -- while it was not destination dining, the meal was decent enough pretty much like most 3 course menus in French restaurants anywhere. I had salt lamb and an appetizer and dessert and it was fine. We often picnic and appreciate the joys of bread and cheese and olives and clementines etc but I don't see it as superior to a meal at a MSM restaurant especially if the weather is lousy. There is no obvious place to have such a picnic on the island. I don't even recall benches although I'm sure there must be some.
