Can we bring food into France?

We are taking the train from Switzerland to Colmar, France and are wondering if we can bring these foods we have with us; oatmeal, cookies, chocolate powder, walnuts?
Where could I read the rules or does anyone know them?
Thanks!

No meat, milk or dairy products can be brought into France. Chocolate and nuts are OK.

It seems like if you are travelling within the EU and the products come from or were grown in the EU I think the restrictions are more about sizes and importation tax and personal use not food safety. Almost everything is okay for personal use under about 22 pounds in quantity.

If you are talking about products from outside the EU then there are many more restrictions and rules to navigate.

Hope that helps,

Kenko, could you provide a link for that, please. I live in France and am unaware of these restrictions you have listed. TIA.

From the link provided by hiredman, it looks like there is no issue bringing these items from Switzerland to France. It states:

In this context, EU includes the 27 EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland.

The French Customs website lists the foods permitted for entry into the European Union and specifies that:

"Products of animal origin may be included in travelers' personal baggage, provided these products are intended for personal consumption and do not exceed the quantity limits set by European regulations"

There is a table further down the webpage showing these quantity limits.

Since Switzerland is not in the EU, there is a special section after the table.
