We are planning 2 days in the Camargue/Arles area in May.
Wondering which town is recommended for a base?
Good hotels in the area?
And...are the various eco-tours worthwhile? Or can we just DIY a tour to see flamingos, horses, etc.

Aigues-Mortes, Le Grau du Roi, or Stes Maries de la Mer could all be used as bases.
I would also recommend that you visit the Parc Ornithologique and if you are early enough in the year, attend a courses Camarguaise, a form of bull fighting where the participants (raseteurs) grab a tag from a bulls horn. The raseteurs win prizes for having the most tags.
