Calais to Dover by ferry

Is any one line better than another. Any favorites? Taking car on ferry. Eurostar won't work ... wife doesn't like traveling under water ... claustro! Thanks.

It's probably not a good idea to try and bring an LHD car to Britain if you're going to be doing a lot of driving. If it's a hire car and you plan to leave it in Britain, there will probably be an enormous drop-off fee.

Lots of different companies lots of different routes. Not much to choose between them.
Map showing all the routes (from a British Government website, click on each port for a list of operators.): http://maps.dft.gov.uk/channel-disruption/
Also a list of the routes here (you can buy tickets here): https://www.aferry.com/cross-channel-ferry-uk.htm

I would say the biggest decider is which route fits in with your plans, the answer may not be Calais-Dover.
It is a pity your wife doesn't like travelling under water, because the Channel Tunnel, Calais to Folkestone is the quickest and most comfortable way to get across.
These are car-carrying shuttles run by Eurotunnel (website: https://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/home/ ), not Eurostar, that is the London-Paris High Speed trains.
If your wife does not like underwater tunnels, she will have trouble in other places, like river tunnels under the Thames.

I would add the warnings. Driving on the "correct" side of the road (left) with a steering wheel on the "wrong" side (left) is not easy.
If you are planning to use a hire car, many companies do not allow you to take a car across the Channel. Even if they do, there is no way you could return it in the UK, you would have to take it back to its country of origin.
And a car is a useless liability in London, or any other big city.
