Cafes/Restaurants in Bayeux

Can anyone recommend some good cafes and restaurants in Bayeux for breakfast and dinner? Will be there for 2.5 days. Thank you!

I've had several fine, casual meals at the outdoor cafe at Hôtel Reine Mathilde. Right around the corner, I've had a couple of nicer meals at L'Assiette Normande. Both are frequented by many tourists, but for good reason. There are also several wonderful dining options on Rue Saint-Jean.

There is a wonderful patisserie called Reine Mathilda on the corner by the cathedral that serves great hot beverages and pastries for breakfast or afternoon cake time. Not sure about other times of the day or menu items as we usually only had coffee and a lovely pastry not a savory meal. The hot chocolate is divine too.

We also enjoyed Le Pommier. If you like seafood, you will enjoy this restaurant.

Concur with Le Pommier recommendations it was very good back in May, we also enjoyed Le Petit Normand and the galetes at Le Moulin de la Galette along the river. La Rapière was highly recommended but small and we could never get a reservation. I'd recommend getting reservations each night, even when not crowded in May we needed reservations.

La Manufacture was great and if you sit outside you will have an awesome view of the cathedral. We also had a fantastic meal at La Rapier, more of a nice, special dinner. We LOVED Bayeux. If you are there on a Sunday, there is a good walking tour in English at 9:30am for $15pp

I wouldn't say that reservations in Bayeux are always required, but even this past May we saw couple after couple without reservations get turned away from restaurants while we were there eating. Our hotel made them for us so it made sense to have them every night.

Moulin de Gallette is a perennial favorite for our family. Its primarily galettes, as you might guess. Have also enjoyed L'assiette Normand by the cathedral. And we had a very nice meal at Auberge des Monts in Ryes. Very small. Reservations recommended.

As mentioned by diveloonie aka Tammy.....La Rapiere restaurant is worth the splurge (60 euro in 2016?) My wife and I have been married for close to 40 years so we've had our share of meals together, here in the States and in Europe. For both of us, hands down....La Rapiere is the finest meal we have ever had, no contest. We went in 2016 and as others have mentioned had a bit of trouble making reservations since they only have, maybe 10 tables (the table is yours for the night, no rush to get you to leave). We explained our predicament to our hotel host. Without hesitating, he picked up the phone, called the restaurant, exchanged a few words in French and then informed us we had a reservation for the next night. Seems he knew the owners! The food, the presentation, the ambiance, the company, the location.........Still one of our greatest travel memories!

The finest restaurant in Bayeux is La Rapière. Mortals will not be able to get a reservation only 1 day in advance. Book at least 1 to 2 weeks before you arrive.

I will be staying in Bayeux for 4 nights next May, so this is welcome information. We are staying Hotel Reine Mathilde. Will plan ahead and make reservations for the restaurants mentioned.

Table du Terroir was fantastic last year. The scallops and lamb were amazing. Right along the Main Street. Great staff!

My favorite place to eat in Bayeaux is Le petit Normand. Reasonable, leisurely and lovely menu.
I also like the Reine Mathilde hotel mentioned above.

My son is rolling his eyes at me, but I made reservations at La Rapiere for May. I guess they have a lot of no shows, so a reservation requires a 20 Euro deposit per person. I am looking forward to it!

I don't see why your son is rolling his eyes. I looked at the menus at La Rapière, they look pretty good (especially the €50 one). And above all there is not too much choice which is always a guarantee of quality.

On the other hand, the "Trou Normand" (with an additional cost of 5€) is not essential in a 3-course menu, starter-main course-dessert. It would take a few more dishes for it to be effective. (appetizers, soup, cold starter, hot starter, fish dish, meat dish, etc.

As for the deposit of €20, this is now practiced quite often because of people who book but do not come (and €20 is not much). Just make sure your booking is confirmed

Another strong recommendation for La Rapiere, they also have a 38 euro menu.
We ate at Le Pommier, also, which we enjoyed very much.

I strongly recommend reservations, we were there a few years ago, and witnessed people getting turned away. You can always cancel within a reasonable amount of time.

Our B&B host recommended Les Volets Roses. It is a charming, quirky place, ideal for breakfast, lunch or tea, it is fun and delicious.

While reservations in advance at popular restaurants is always sound advice, the above is a bit exaggerated. I just went to the restaurant's website and could have booked three tables tonight: one for 19h, 19h 30, and 20h. The earliest of those is only 4 hours from now, not 1 to 2 weeks. I suspect summertime conditions would be quite different, with all the tourists Bayeux gets.

Another vote for Le Pommier. I thought the food was excellent, although not inexpensive.

The rolling of the eyes is due to how early in time it is. Luckily, he doesn't roll his eyes once all of my planning works out so well!

We walked into L'Alcove the first night without a reservation and were fortunate that they had 1 table available. Amazing food and the macaroon dessert was perfect, not too sweet. Our second night, we went to La Rapiere and the food was also excellent. Can't go wrong with either of these two restaurants!
