Café or other place to eat before a ballet at the Opera Garnier

Hi there-

We have tickets to see a ballet that starts at 7:30pm at the Opera Garnier. Any suggestions of places close by that maybe offer all day dining (for an early dinner) or late dining? Cafe Paix opens at 6:00, which feels like it’s cutting it a bit close, but maybe not?

Since most restaurants don't serve dinner before 7pm, I suggest you do like the Parisians, go to dinner after the ballet.

A ballet is about 1h30, at 9:30pm you are out of the Opera and ready to go to the restaurant to talk about the show during a good meal.

Unfortunately (fortunately) this one is 2 hours and 45 minutes. So we can do a late dinner but that feels late even for Parisians? The last reservation at Cafe Paix is 10:30, which feels like it’s cutting it close.

There are a few restaurants open until 2 a.m. in the area.

I lived in this area, but having left Paris for quite a few years there may be other forum members to give you up-to-date addresses.

Or you could ask your hotel for a recommendation

The Galeries Lafayette food emporium, across the street from the Opera Garnier, has many food stands with tables where you can sit down and eat. They serve all day.

On days we have Operas which last too long to eat after but ours started at 7 the other night, we have a substantial lunch and then just have a sandwich before the event. You can get those at any bakery. For Bastille opera, it is quite usual for people to pack a picnic and eat their sandwiches during the intervals. I suspect you could do the same at the Garnier.
