Caen Peace Museum before or after D Day tour?

We will be leaving Honfleur and driving to Arromanche for a 2 night stay. We will go on an Overlord tour of the beaches the following day. Do you recommend going to Bayeux and Arromanche to the museums on our way in, or should we do the Caen Museum before our tour? Thanks for any help.

Not sure if you're asking for this advice in order to make the logistics/use of your time most efficient, or if there's a difference in "impact" or meaningfulness of the oder in which you do them.

Regarding the logistics it depends on how/when you're coming and going. If it's which order provides a better/more insightful experience...I suspect that it wouldn't make much difference, unless you don't know very much about WWII history. I suspect either order would usually be fine.

Thank you both. I am evaluating both logistics and impact. We will be coming from Honfleur so my original idea was to stop at Caen on the way to give us more information before our tours. We have been studying D-Day accounts and have a reasonable start on understanding the events of that day. Many people have expressed the extensive amount of time that could be spent at the Caen Peace Myseum. Having read Rick’s recommendation for some of the smaller museums and knowing that we are having a full day private tour of the beaches, I am considering whether we should do the other experiences first, and then go to Caen. As you say, I’m sure there are advantages to both approaches, but I am always appreciative of insights for using our time wisely.

Just be aware that the Caen museum is not just D-Day, but covers the rise of Nazi power over many years. Great museum, we were there most of a day. Small museum in Arromanches showing how the breakwater was built for D-Day landings, plus a D-Day movie in another part of town.

I'm a fan of the Caen museum but I don't know that it will give you as much insight into the Normandy events as those in Bayeux and Arromanches. As another poster noted, it's about the whole war in Europe, from causes to aftermath. With your time frame I'd suggest skipping it.

The Bayeux Tapestry is superb if you can work it into your time. You have only one full day and I assume the Overlord tour will fill most of that.

Thank you all. We actually have a half day on our way to Arromanches, a full day with the Overlord tour, and a half day after that during which the original plan was to see Bayeux and the tapestry before driving to Mont St. Michel to stay the night. I could do reversals and backtrack a bit to Caen on the way out.

I'll add myself to those not enamored with the Caen "Museum." There are much better museums in the area. One of my favorites, but furthest West, is the Utah Beach Museum.
