Ca rental return outside Paris, coming from Bayeux

I’m looking at car rental return locations outside Paris city center. We’ll be renting a car from Orly airport (after a flight from Spain), driving to Bayeux for a few days then returning to Paris around 1 pm on a Friday in November. We’re staying near Rue Cler, but don’t want to drive in the city. We’ll take a taxi to the apartment (4 people + luggage).

Is Orly our best return location option? Or is there someplace on the west side of Paris that would be easier (clear signage, easy parking, not alot of city driving) and have easy access to taxis? We don’t want to take the metro with luggage.

We like to return our rental car at the Caen railroad station where there are 3 rental agencies right across the street. You can then take the train into Paris and take a taxi to your apartment. Check and see if your rental agency is one of the 3 agencies there. Go to www.seat61.com to learn about buying and using French train tickets. It's a hassle free way to get to Paris. You can buy tickets at the railroad station after returning the car.

Versus other car rental locations like Versailles or St. Germain-en-Laye (that are on the RER commuter line), Orly airport has the advantage of a lower fixed-rate taxi fare. That might be balanced out by a possible airport fee, but you'd also be slightly familiar with the area.

Caen + train works for a lot of people, but note that the train line has been subject to some weekend construction issues the past couple of years and you'd still take a taxi from Gare St. Lazare to your hotel.
