Buying paris metro tickets

I know that you can't use a non chip and pin credit card at the ticket vending machines, but can I use a debit card. Some of the information I've seen suggest that I can. We will be arriving at Gare De Nord and want to buy a carnet of tickets.

Hi,

A better way to buy a carnet of Metro tickets instead of trying to work the ticket machine, unless you have ample cash in Euro or waiting in line at a staffed counter, ie, to avoid both these tedious places, is to go a "Relay" store at Gare du Nord. The "Relay" vendor sell magazines, newspapers, cold drinks, etc. At the "Relay" you can also buy the carnet of Metro tickets...much better than the ticket machines or dealing with a clerk.

You can't use the ticket machines with your non-chip and pin card. We always buy our tickets at the staffed ticket window. We have not experienced long lines.

If you are travelling Eurostar from London to Paris, you can buy carnets in the departure lounge at St Pancras.

I'm in Paris now and my chip and signature Chase Sapphire Visa works fine in the Vente automated ticket machines at the Metro and RER stations.
