My husband and I and our bags need to travel from Gare Montparnasse to near Porte Doree or Porte de Reuilly in the 12th.Bonjour Rapt offers two choices via Bus: Bus 58 and tram T3a or Bus 91 and 29. I’ve never taken a tram in Paris. Anyone know what that might be like whilehandling Baggage? For that matter, does it make any kind of sense to take two buses with Baggage? Any advice would be much appreciated. The metro is, unfortunately not an option.
Trams have more floor space than buses and so would IMHO be easier than buses with bags. Buses do have an area designed for wheel chairs where if the bus is not crowded you can stand with your bags. FWIW you can transfer from buses to trams on the same ticket.
Trams also board flat to the platform which makes sliding bags easier; buses do kneel but they are unlikely to put out the wheelchair ramp for bags.
With baggage, the tram plus bus option (Bus 58 + Tram T3a) is usually easier than taking two buses, since trams are more spacious, have level boarding, and involve less lifting and squeezing through narrow aisles, especially outside rush hours. Two buses (91 + 29) mean handling your bags twice and possibly walking between stops, which can be tiring. Overall, the tram and bus combo is the more practical and comfortable choice if the stops are reasonably close to your destination.
trams tend to start and stop much more smoothly, no weaving so much easier if you are standing. They also tend to go faster so if you let go of your luggage it could wander especially if a spinner
Thanks so much for your advice, Janet, Nigel and Coordine! I was thinking the trams might be easier to board. Also, good to know that I don’t need to tap in again on the trim after leaving the bus. BTW: I know One must tap in and out at the metro stations, but does One need to tap out from a bus or tram?
I’ll post this question separately as well.
Again, your help is very much appreciated.
In fact, you don't tap out at Metro stations.
You do at RER stations.
You do not on buses and trams.
Hi Kim,
I thought One did! Maybe that is something that was just done with paper tickets? In any case it sounds like One does not tap out whether they’re using Metro or a tram or the bus. Only with RER.Is this correct?
