Bus to Annecy

Looking at flying from Lisbon to Geneva then on to Annecy. Has anyone taken a bus from the airport in Geneva direct to Annecy . If so any information on the bus times and area of the airport to catch it would be appreciated.

Geneva is not that large an airport. The only thing you need to avoid is crossing over
to the French side of the airport (there are signs).

The bus depot is outside on the upper level between the airport and train station.

There is a public bus (272), which is economical but makes a few stops. Flixbus
and BlaBlabus also provide service. There are trains but they tend to take longer.

Last year we flew into Geneva and took the BlaBlaBus to Annecy, then a few days later did the same thing in reverse. We just followed the directions for where to catch the bus. The FlixBus stop was in the same place.

Thanks Shoeflyer and Andrea. I want to spend 2 days in Annecy and I hope to take the bus onto Chamonix. I hate back tracking, so if anyone can step in to see how I can get from Chamonix France to Montreux Switzerland it would be appreciated.

Easiest way to get from Chamonix to Montreux, without back tracking, is going via Vallorcine and Martigny. The first part is on a scenic mountain railway. You can look up times (as always) on www.sbb.ch

Annecy to Chamonix is train, bus or combination of train and bus. Look on www.sncf-connect.com

From Annecy to Chamonix, the train is a bit more inefficient, as it backtracks towards Geneva to
Annemasse and then heads up. There is also at least 1 change of trains.

The same bus services, Flixbus and BlaBlaBus, provide direct service from Annecy to Chamonix.
They go south and then east, so it's closer and faster. There is only 1 bus station in Chamonix,
so you'd want to be aware of how far away your accomodation is. The bus service around
Chamonix is pretty good, but it's not necessarily the thing you want to figure out the minute
you get there.

The train is indeed not as fast as the direct busses Flixbus and other offer. However the train has more departures spread over the day, and you do not need to book it in advance. Flixbus tomorrow for example has only one departure at 6:45. blablacar has a few more departures, but I would still take the train. I usually add recovery time to travel time.

I took the bus to Chamonix last fall - there was construction, so when you get down to where there's ground transportation, definitely ask to confirm where. There were loads of Americans, Canadians, Brits, etc., outside waiting to confirm as well.
