We just watched the new RS episode where he goes on a gourmet barge trip in the Burgundy region for a week. I'm sure his trip is way out of our price range but I'm wondering if anyone has done a barge trip in the region on a larger and hopefully less expensive boat?

Bill, do a search on the forum for Barge. You'll see some recent discussions.
We enjoyed a barge cruise in Burgundy many years ago. We booked 2 cabins on a barge that carried around 18 passengers. The price included all meals and wine, daily excursions and transportation to and from Paris.
Look for a hotel barge where you are booking a cabin, not the entire barge.
