Burgundy and Loire Valley advice

Hi,

We're taking a 2 week driving trip to France in mid April.

Route would be: Loire Valley>>>Auxrerre (overnight stop)>>>Burgundy>>>Alsace>>>Nancy (overnight stop)>>>Epernay>>>Paris (overnight possibly by CDG).

Would any of these lodging areas be any better/worse for: centrally located for our activities/city traffic getting into and out of the area daily/beauty?

Beginning the trip:

with possibly 1 overnight in Tours,

picking up rental car next morning
3 nights touring the Loire Valley to see maybe 3 chateaux (I have 6 marked and they range evenly spaced from Cheverny to Fontevraud) , wine tasting, visiting 1 vineyard and 1 cave?

Possible lodging areas listed from east to west:
Blois
near Amboise
near Vouvray
Tours
Joue-les-Tours
L'Aubordiere
Savonnieres
2 outliers--Luzille and Monteaux

3 nights in the Burgundy area coming from around Auxerre and departing to Alsace. Activities-- 1 chateau, wine tasting, 1 vineyard visit, cave?

Nuit Saint-George
Eclan-Nenon
near Marchaux

Thanks and I appreciate the help:)

Auxerre is 15 kilometers to Chablis without going two-hours south into the wine route country. You have chateau in Tanlay and Ancy-le-Franc an hour beyond Chablis.

It's not clear why you have so many places listed. Do you want to change locations every night, or are you looking for one central place in each region?

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Our hopeful itinerary would be:

4 nights Loire Valley
1 night Auxrerre (overnight stop)
3 nights Burgundy
3 nights Alsace
1 night Nancy (overnight stop)
2 nights Epernay
1 night Paris (overnight possibly by CDG)

Auxerre is in northern Burgundy, in fact the prefecture for the Yonne department, which made it confusing. I like Auxerre but you may want to look at Chablis for your overnight since it's much smaller and is charming. It's about 14 kilometers off the autoroute entrance, less than 10 miles.

So you are saying that you want to stay 3 nights in southern Burgundy, such as Dijon, or Beaune, or Nuits-Saint Georges. Beaune and Nuits-Saint Georges are both easy to access. Dijon is medium-size city, 150,000 population, so you want a hotel with parking and to avoid any pedestrian zone if you chose Dijon.

Others will have to advise for the other areas.

Thanks, Elizabeth.

I'm not sure we want to stay in a city as large as Dijon, maybe visit it, but not stay there. We're looking for a central and nice place to stay so that we can visit various areas in both Burgundy and the Loire Valley.

Do you have any specific opinion on Nuit Saint-George, Eclan-Nenon or near Marchaux?

No opinion. Of the three, I've been to only Nuits-Saint-Georges.
However, my husband and I look at paper maps to get the large picture of an area and to determine what town will be the most convenient for visiting the area.

Joby,
I agree with Elizabeth. We always like to have a paper map (from Michelin) for the overview and a better understanding of our journeys. Plus, after marking our route on the regional or local map, we have a nice souvenir. Most Michelin maps are available on Amazon.
