Does anyone have recommendations for a hotel in the 5th or 6th (Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain-des-Pres) for one person for €85 or less, en suite with AC and wifi?
You are looking for a lot. My suggestion is get to Booking.com Venere.com and start looking immediately,as in today. My guess is you are going to have to up the ante or settle for a different area. Remember that saving a couple bucks a day staying in the outer area of the city means you will be spending it on Metro fares and losing time to boot.
I know. I'm just hoping to find a bargain to keep costs down, since I'm planning on 9 nights. I am looking at a place in the 5th for €98 and one in the Marais for much less. I have stayed in the Marais on my last two visits and kind of wanted to spend more time on the Rive Gauche.
Have you looked into airbnb? When I looked last year, I think there were a few apt. in the area in that price range.
Hi Chani, we were very happy last year at the RS recommended Hotel de L'Esperance on rue Pascal. It's in the 5th, near rue Mouffetard and two Metro stations, Censier Daubenton and Place Monge.
AC, wifi, elevator, 24 hr staffed front desk, they'll keep your key while you're out. RS France guide 2014 shows 85 euro single, about what we paid.
Try Hotel St. Pierre. Although their website shows singles start at 91 euros, if you email them you may be able to get a room for less... especially if it's early June.
Thank you all for great suggestions. I have contacted several hotels and none of them are taking reservations until the spring. I'll keep the list and hope they don't raise the prices next year. Looks like I can afford Paris.
If anyone has other recommendations, please add.
Chani, if you are willing to leave the single digit arrondissements behind, The Hotel Ideal, on ave Emile-Zola in the 15th is a nice budget hotel i have used a couple of times. Bus No. 42 stops almost at the door, on a route that passes the Eiffel Tower to and from the hotel. (Added bonus.)
Chani I know some complain but I find I can survive and enjoy Paris very much on a tight budget, I have not found it a lot more expensive then any other western European large city.
Besides Hotel St Pierre ( which o have stayed at , and it does have good a/c not not sure about WiFi as we travel lo tech) .
Hotel College du France gets good reviews but not sure if it has ac( which I agree for a summer visit is important)!
Is AC an absolute necessity for Paris in June do you think? I wouldn't have thought so.
Norma I have been to Paris many times between May and October( no winter visits yet) and I have found there is NO way of predicting when you will need it between May and end of September.
I have literally been hot at end of May .. and a week later as we entered June , it turned cool.. I have also spend 7 out of 9 days of an August visit cool and wet as we didn't pack enough warm clothes.. lol . .
For me I simply would not chance it.. plus there Paris is not a breezy city .. so even on only a moderately warm day its hard to air your room out.. and I am a very light sleeper so most times I have to have the window shut tight.. and ac can be white noise too..
Some people grew up with heat and can do a lot better then me however, I do not like anything much over 75-80 unless I am at a beach resort and can swim to cool down.
Some years ago RS recommended the Hotel Prince, which is close to the Eiffel Tower, inexpensive and with AC. We have stayed there several times and it has suited us as we don't spend much time in a hotel room. The rooms are small but clean. Do ask for a room with twin beds or you may end up in a room with an old fashioned double bed which is not what you want unless you are tiny.
