Brive to Avignon sightseeing

My wife and I are headed to France for 3 weeks in May. Flying into Paris (have tickets), TGV to Brive (have tickets), taxi to Meyssac for a walking tour of the area for a week. Then head to Avignon where we will spend a week along with some friends exploring. We would appreciate some suggestions on what to see/do/stay as we have 5 days including travel to get from Brive to Avignon. Perhaps a day kayaking on the Dordonge. We weren't planning on renting a car but would be open to it. Thinking that we TGV to get from Avignon to CDG.

I think you should seriously consider a car for these 5 days. Yes to some time in the Dordogne, yes to some of the hill towns on the way south, but do a little research and figure out what grabs you the most because you have many wonderful options.

There's the Auvergne region to the southeast, or head to the foothills of the Pyrenees on your way to the sea. Collioure is a charming seaside village near the Spanish border. If you take the second route and are car averse you can return your car in Perpignan and catch the train along the coast to Avignon, but you will need wheels of your own to see all that good stuff in the Perigord and Languedoc.
