We are planning a trip to France in Sept, focus on Brittany. I feel we've covered the coast pretty thoroughly on walking tours and revisiting favorite places. The more interior cities/towns like Laval, Mayenne (Pays de la Loire) and places around seem to have interesting things to see, some pleasant walks and good bus service between them. Does anyone have suggestions of places they've visited, hotels and restaurants they've enjoyed in this area? For at least one night, I'm also hoping to find a comfortable hotel with a nice restaurant for a birthday dinner, like the Hotel L'Esplanade in Domme, but easier to get to. Thanks for any input.
Domme is in the Dordogne, not Brittany. Are you mentioning it as an example or planning on a dinner there this trip? Pays de la Loire is also not in Brittany. Perhaps I misunderstood. Are you looking for suggestions for activities and sights in Brittany itself, and hotels and restaurants in Brittany?
Thanks, Judy. Domme was just an example of a comfortable hotel with a nice restaurant. Maybe I should have said an area around Rennes, rather than Brittany itself. Mayenne, with its river and easy access is just one of the cities/towns in the interior that looked interesting.
Mayenne is not a town. It's a river. Laval is a town in northwestern France, serving as the capital of the Mayenne department within the Pays de la Loire region. It is situated on the Mayenne River.
It is not in Brittany. It is landlocked.
It is however fairly close to Rennes. Also close to Angers.
There is a town named Mayenne, north of Laval.
I have never been. In the area, I only know Fougères for the castle.
You are correct.
Yes, there is a town named Mayenne in France.
• Location: Mayenne is a commune (town) located in the Mayenne department in northwestern France.
• Relationship to the River: The town of Mayenne is situated on the Mayenne River, which shares the same name as the department and the town.
• Clarification: While Mayenne" can refer to the department, the river, or the town, the image's text stating Mayenne is not a town. It's a river" is inaccurate as a town named Mayenne does exist.
Hi Randonneuse,
Nice Plans! For your special event, one recommendation would be Castel Beau Site in Ploumanac'h. Located on St Guirec beach, it offers excellent hiking nearby, a hotel with character and impressive views, and the renowned “La Table de Mon Père” restaurant—perfect for a special celebration.

Thanks, Emma, that hotel looks really nice. I'm still hoping for something away from the coast, so shall keep looking. Luckily, planning is at least half the fun. Your Crepes & Travel looks interesting!
