Hi, looking for recommendations on where to stay for 1 night, somewhere between Brest and Nantes. This will be the last day of our trip in the Brittany area.
We are staying in Saint Malo and Dinan prior to this.
We looked at Brest but it seemed more "industrial" , also considered Quimper and Vannes, but hoping for more of a coastal location before we fly put of Nantes the next day.
Thank you
For just one night, I would not drive all the way to Finistère. Vannes is quite nice (if slightly overrated), and it's right by the beautiful Golfe du Morbihan for coastal views.
Well it's not coastal but Rochefort-en-Terre is about as cute as they come. Also close to Nantes.
I suggest Guérande, a medieval town and salt marsh area (the famous Guérande Salt)

The marshes can be visited

From Guérande you will be 1 hour drive from Nantes airport
Before Guérande you can also stop at Bénodet / Combrit
a rather pretty seaside port.
In Combrit, the Hotel du Bac is quite nice.
In contrast to your original consideration, if I were you I would stay in either Vannes or Quimper. Both have their good points (and drawbacks) but both are quite nice. Not sure where the "overrated" notion arose, but both are certainly a pleasant place to spend a day and evening.
Brest may seem "industrial" because it had the daylights bombed out of it during WWII and it largely is constituted of 1950s through 1970s structures built on the rubble of what previously was there. Lorient is similar in that regard.
