Brittany by car, and a visit to Bayeux - what order makes sense if we start and end in Paris?

We are visiting France in early May, starting and ending with Paris. We plan to rent a car to tour Brittany - thought we might do this in Rennes. But we would also like to visit Bayeux! We're wondering the best way to plan this itinerary?

I've rented a car in Rennes and they are all conveniently located at the train station. You can take the TGV from Charles de Gaulle airport directly to Rennes in about 2 1/2 hours. So it really makes sense to start there and then work your way back to Paris. By the way, I'd drop off the car at the Caen train station and take the train into Paris, rather than bother driving in Paris traffic.

It depends on your itinerary. I trained to Rouen from Paris, drove to Etretat, then down trough Bayeux, MSM and a loop through Brittany. My next stop was Loire, so I dropped the car in Chinon and picked up a bike before training back into Paris from Amboise.

There are some direct trains from Bayeux and Caen into Paris, so either would probably work for your drop off if that's your last stop. When I first looked, I only found longer, non-direct, trains to Bayeux but that may have been because I was limiting my search to only part of a day.

Rennes would probably be the easiest to reach by train for picking up but you may find trains that are convenient to wherever you plan your first stop in Brittany.
