We will leave Brest on Sept 18th and drop off the rental car at Lille Europe the morning of the 25th. We have toured the Normandy beaches before but want to see them again. Would also like to visit MSM again. Having a difficult time trying to get a time-line and overnights laid out. We had a tour of the beaches the last time, so is another one recommended? Not really a fan of paying $200 per person. Recommendations on places to stay overnight to make the most of our time would be appreciated.
I think if you are driving yourselves and you have done a tour before there is no particular need to pay for a tour. We drove ourselves to everything and then could spend as much time as we wanted. With a good guidebook and posted information you can uncover quite a bit. St. Mere Eglise, Point du hoc and the cemetaries were very memorable. Get to Mont St. Michel as early as possible to avoid crowds. Visit the Bayeux Tapestry if that interests you. We also visited the Castle of William the Conqueror in Falaise. We stayed on the outskirts of Bayeux for our whole visit, and found the driving easy. So, I don't have other overnight stays to recommend.
