Brainstorming Late February, early March trip. Where to go?

Well, I spontaneously grabbed some free flights w points today, from USA into Madrid. I figured we’d use Madrid as a pillow, then head off to somewhere else.

Any ideas or inspirations on good places to see in Southern Europe in early spring? Some initial thoughts are Provence/Paris/Alsace or Rome/Sicily. We’ve been to Andalucia and Portugal during late Feb, early March on two other trips, and the weather and lack of crowds worked out very nicely. We’ve been to Italy twice, but not farther south than Rome. We like art, churches, ruins, wine. We aren’t hikers. If we need to, we’d rent a car.

Sicily sounds like a perfect match for your interests. Given your time frame, you might catch the almond blossoms.
