Bordeaux Wine Tours

We are 4 adults (seniors) that will be in Bordeaux, Sept 14-16, 2024. We are interested in tour suggestions. We are looking for a full day tour near Bordeaux. Then we plan to go to St Emilion one day and can you just tour the town and walk to a chateau/winery nearby or is it better to do a tour.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Bordeaux and it's environs are so beautiful! I suggest starting with Lost in Bordeaux https://www.lostinbordeaux.com/category/discover-bordeaux/bordeaux-wine-region/
She always has the latest and greatest info on the whole area (even locals use her info as it's that good and timely) and the linked section above is all of her info on the complete Bordeaux Wine area, covering all wine regions (of which there are many in what people typically refer to as Bordeaux wine.) I should note, her site also covers everything having to do with Bordeaux and is intuitively categorized for any activity, date, occassion, etc. you may want.

A company I've used a bit is called Rustic Vines Tours (https://rusticvinestours.com/). I loved them and recommend to those who'd prefer a guided, small group tour. Additionally, it is very easy to schedule your own tours should you chose. You will need to make reservations. Most of the time, I send an email to schedule though some of the more popular (or more 'funded') wineries will have the option to schedule your appointment online. The tourist offices will also have a list of any wineries that are open for drop ins (portes ouvertes.)

In the town of St. Émilion, you can tour around, taste at the wine shops, eat some delicious food and visit wineries. One with an interesting history as well as delicious wine is Château Guadet https://www.chateauguadet.fr/en It's at the top of town, behind a blue door. You will need a reservation.

And...if you are looking for a food tour in Bordeaux, Take Walks now offers: https://www.takewalks.com/bordeaux-tours/
I have not taken this specific tour (I'm going to see if there's an opening in a couple of weeks) but I've used this organization all over Europe with great success.

I hope you enjoy your visit to this really charming part of the world!

Kimberly, Thank you very much for the Lost in Bordeaux link. I'm currently planning a trip there with the intention of visiting around Lascaux also. Airfare from Germany is less than $100 round trip.

If you are looking for winery recommendations, I would recommend using Sauvistication (www.sauvistication.com). It is especially good for Saint-Emilion.

I don't recommend using a guide because it's much more expensive and Bordeaux can be navigated without one. If you choose to go that route, take a look at Ophorus and Bordeaux Wine Trails.

I guess you've already been but back in July we had a truly amazing wine tour with https://bordeauxwinepilgrim.com/, they also actually referred us to another company for our trip later in the year to Provence, that same company operates in Bordeaux and many other places. Can't for the life of me remember the name but I've sent their contact on to our kids that will tour with them next summer.
