Bordeaux/wine country recommendations

We are coming from Paris for 4 nights by train to wine country. We have no idea what town would be more convenient to stay. Looking for charming place, love good food and wine, walking and biking around would be great activities. Chateau's, Bed and Breakfast places are our preference. Please share your thoughts. This community is so helpful. Thank you in advance!

I have a similar interest, but for the Northern Rhone. I was hoping someone would mention something about the use of a guide because driving after wine tasting will mean choosing which wineries, making those reservations, etc would all be up to me. I need someone to show me the ropeson this 1st trip. So I'm following your thread.

There's nothing wrong with staying in Bordeaux, though you may not want to base yourself in a big city after leaving Paris. Otherwise I can't think of a more scenic little village than St. Emilion. Great views, great walks, cycling through there shouldn't be a problem. Plenty of AirBnBs there to choose from.

One advantage of staying in Bordeaux is that's where most of the wine tours (driver provided) depart from, whether left bank or right bank destinations.
