Bordeaux to Sarlat-la-Canéda: Asking for a Friend

Hi!

I am usually active here answering questions (mostly about the UK) but today I have a query from my aunt. She is 84 and since 2019 has been spending November through January in Sarlat-la-Canéda. She writes medical nutrition textbooks and finds spending three months in the quiet of a medieval town really helps her focus.

She has started to rather dread the schlep from Bordeaux to Sarlat, though. From CDG to Bordeaux is fine. She gets assistance at the airport and the train ride itself is a breeze. It is the second leg that she is dreading for next year. Her question is twofold:

1) does anyone know if there is assistance for travelers who need help with their luggage and the train change at Bordeaux? She can walk just fine, but gets a wheelchair at airports and has someone help with her cases. Is a service like this available at the train station?

2) does anyone have experience with hiring a car and driver at Bordeaux and being driven to Sarlat-la-Canéda? Is this prohibitively costly? How long does it take?

I told my aunt that I think both things are possible, but that folks with actual experience could be found here in the Rick Steves community. Many thanks in advance! :-)

Hello,

Christoph Kusters at Taxi&Touring à la Carte offers transfer service. They are based in Sarlat.

Although I have not used them personally (they are not available the week I will be in the Dordogne), he and his wife come highly recommended and are listed in the Rick Steves France book.
