We need to get to Loches from Bordeaux. The travel time seems to be the same by train or car. We will be renting a car anyway and just wondered if more convenient to drive or take train or even take the train one way.
Also we are wondering if we should arrive in Bordeaux the night before our river cruise or arrive on that day.
Thanks to all or you wonderful travelers!!!
I can't answer about your car vs train question but I am very risk averse and try always to arrive at least one day before a tour starts. There is always something interesting to see in the area that you aren't seeing on the tour.
There seem to be a few towns in the Loire region called Loches but only one that has a train station. It only has two trains per day in each direction, for commuters meeting other trains in Tours. So I would not plan to take a train here. You could pick up or drop off a rental car in Tours or St-Pierre-des-Corps, if that sounds easier. Note that many French rental offices have limited or no hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
I also would arrive a night early to Bordeaux, just in case.
Trains to Loches are few and far between (1-2 a day). If you're going to take the train, you'll have to go back to Paris to get to Bordeaux----which is out of the way.
Loches is an amazing city with so many great sites at your fingertips!
