Does anyone have any experience traveling from the Bordeaux airport to the Viking river cruise port at Quai des Chartrons? Would like to know what options are available and the cost. I assume taxis are always an option, but at what cost? I understand that there is lower cost public transportation available such as trams or buses, but we are not clear on how to get to those services from the airport and what transfers may be involved to get to the cruise port. Also, where does one purchase tickets for the public transports. Any info that you can provide will be much appreciated. Thank you.

The quay is right in the centre of Bordeaux, so it's easy. You can get bus number 1 from the airport to the terminus at Place des Quinconces, then tramline B that runs along the river bank. If you have a huge amount of luggage you might get a cab, but it will be much more expensive - the bus fare is only 1.50 euro per person.
I haven't been to Bordeaux for a while, but I believe that you buy bus tickets on board the bus. You can keep the same ticket for the tram journey. The only thing I would suggest is to try and make sure you have some euro coins for the bus fare, as bus drivers don't like changing big notes.
Lonely Planet France, 2013 edition, estimates €50 for a taxi from Bordeaux airport to the city center. Add a bit more for worst-case scenario.
