Bordeaux, France hotel recommendations

I just bought the Rick Steves book on France. I can't find any descriptions of Bordeaux or hotels there.

To find hotels you need to look at other travel sites such as Trip Advisor or Lonely Planet. I found little information on the RS site.

We are staying for one night and are booking a room with the Ibis hotel chain. They have several locations at several price points.

RS guides are extremely dated about Bordeaux. I'm guessing he hasn't been there in 40 years and didn't notice the UNESCO designation a decade ago. It's an architectural gem and just happens to be ground zero of the best wine producing region in the world. No idea of your budget but I stayed at Le Grande across from the opera house. IHG owns it now. Spectacular. I looked up nearby budget places and they checked out great on location. The airport is very far away so definitely don't look there. Look at other sites. That's what I did.

Rick Steves does not seem to have a high opinion of Bordeaux. See the article in the link below

He says "Bordeaux must mean boredom in some ancient language". I have to say that I disagree, but I believe that Bordeaux has undergone substantial changes in the last 20 years, and he may not have revisited. I visited in 2015, for only a day, and really enjoyed my stay. I used the Lonely Planet guide to France, and found that very useful.

I stayed here last July in Bordeaux; nice clean hotel; https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-1561-ibis-bordeaux-centre-gare-saint-jean/index.shtml

hopefully you have a book store nearby where you can review the contents of a book next time before you purchase it.
there are a lot of hotels by the train station in Bordeaux; you should have no problem since all the wine cognoscenti folks pass through there; you might look at tripadvisor or booking.com for hotels; I never really see hotel recommendations here
