Hello
We will be staying in Bordeaux for about 4/5 nights and will not have a car. What are the best areas to stay for walking to shops, cafes, etc?
Also, looking for wine tour suggestions
We will be traveling late August, early September
Thank you
I have not seen it but first reviews of the city's new wine museum/theme park are provocative:
I wanted to incorporate Bordeaux into our last vacation, but couldn't make it work with the eventual itinerary.
But, if I could have made Bordeaux work, I would have used Ophorus for one or two wine tours. We used them in Alsace and were very happy with their services.
The 3 times we've stayed in Bordeaux we've stayed at Hotel des Voyageurs. It's a small, simple hotel, and some might be turned off by it being on the "wrong side" of the river, but it's simple to cross the river to the center, or take a tram, which stops just past the hotel's door. Otherwise, I think anywhere in the center, not too far from the river, would be good. As to wine tours, I would assume that the new wine museum would have info about that, as well as the city tourist office. Or, you can ask the same question on Tripadvisor and hope that dmjwineworks answers.
We were in Bordeaux last May and truly enjoyed it. We stayed in the city center and it is very easy to get around by tram. Our hotel was Maison d’Hotes Chambre en Ville on rue Bouffard. Small friendly hotel in a great location. For in town wine tastings, try Bordovino and L’Ecole du Vin. i found the new wine museum to be disappointing but Bordeaux itself tb be great.

That's interesting. I've been to Bordeaux several times (pre-museum) and love wine. When I first read about the museum it didn't sound like my style, but then I started reading all these glowing reviews about it, including in today's NY Times, and I thought I might visit if I have the chance. But maybe my first impression was right.
Just visited the wine museum in January; it was a nice and interesting educational experience if you like wine but do not know much about the history and production of it around the world already. I am glad I went as at the end you get a tasting of your choice. I like Bordeaux in general
