We are in an exchange house near Bordeaux and looking for day trips with a car or a one night stay is Burgandy out of the question?
We have a rail pass and would welcone any advise in a longer trip from here instead of day tripping

A drive to Arcachon with a stop at the Dune du Pilat would make a nice day trip,

Apparently if you climb to the top of the dune, you can see Spain (but not Russia [joke]).
P.S. Somewhat further south, St Jean de Luz might interest you.
